SUMMARY:I Love Poetry- Black Poetry Day 10/17
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a personal piece of mine\, written in 2023 after reading some of the book: The Body Keeps the Score-Brain\, Mind\, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel van der Kolk M.D.\nRepeat after Me\nYo’ child taking pills\, \nUnderlying they don’t know what’s real. \nThrough your hurt and pain\, \nVery seldom it’s in our gain. \nStruggling\, struggling to survive. \nGod told us about Mother Earth. \nCarry her\, treasure her worth. \nOur babies hurt\, confused and diseased. \nThe system has the answer: \nMedicate their minds\, so we can be pleased. \nWhy were we taught Not. To. Cry. \nTo close the door when our voices got too high. \nI am the ceiling you are the floor. \nWe both see the window of our pain… \nA 5 yr. old on prescription drugs- help us as we deal with our shame. \nCan you hear the fetters on their little feet\, still needing milk Paul\, \nThe world forces them meat. \nHow do we change a system that know not our name. \nHow much more shame. \nBefore you were born\, God already proclaimed. \nThat baby over yonder\, “she was fine with you lord.” \n“She was healthy\, he was strong.” \nCan we please turn back to you? \nThat’s where we belong. \nWhy our black babies get put on drugs? \nWhy our black kids can’t thrive? \nHow long will our communities burn from within\, \nDoes our blackness make us turn a blind eye? \nAm I too Black to see? \nIs my blackness out of control? \nWill I assist in my own injection to keep me numb? \nWhen God says\, “son\, daughter you come from \nmy treasure\, riches untold.” \nI walk and the ground shakes. \nI speak and heaven quakes. \nI yield and God makes the way. \nI plant and their grows my faith. \nWe must reconcile our homes to our streets\, \nBuild purpose from the pain we weep. \nSaturate our youth with armor their minds can reap. \n  \nThis. Is. A. Promise. Through. Our. God. We. Keep. \nHow do we change a system that know not our name? \nWho created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame? \nYou are not just clay\, \nA myriad from the dirt- \nSand of the sea\, \nGod calls your hands to be of good work. \nWhat shall rise against the calamity of our time? \nYou\, You\, for inside of purpose lies strength we must recognize. \nI will speak and you will answer\, \nI will call- you shall awake. \nWe will teach our babies truth? \nOur ancestors still hold our hands “Make No Mistake.” \nOur Power Is In Our Healing \nOur answer comes through our prayer. \nAs we support another\, \nThis is where your armor gets repaired. \nLet your voice echo in the wind\, \nLet your purpose call you to the end. \nLet your vision keep you through the night\, \nLet your soul make a pathway to the light. \nLet your mind steady the strength of your hands\, \nLet your courage remain when fear takes its stand. \nLet your truth lead you down the road\, \nLet your tears remind you who is in control. \nLet your burdens yield to your faith\, \nLet Joy be the backdrop when doubt wants to win the race. \nLet purpose forever stand\, \nLet God remind you…He Always… Has A Plan.
