Spoken word piece for Class of 92′ meetup
October 12 @ 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm
I was able to share memories, friendship, and fellowship with my graduating class of 92 this month. It was such a blessing to embrace our now as we all begin our journey on the other side of 50! What a journey it has been. Here is the poem that I shared on my social media. We didn’t have a microphone, 🙂 so I chose to opt from sharing it that night. So thankful for our journey:
What does a reunion look like?
It’s laughter while catching up-Â
It’s forgetting you have kids but passing around pictures on your phone.Â
Its making room in your mind for memories that you couldn’t recall on your own.
It’s being here in this moment with others, yet still knowing some have gone.Â
It’s breathing and making it last.
You are here-Â
Its breathing in our fellowship, making it last-
making it good.
For our time has yielded many things in this lifespan. Some you held on to for these 32 years-some things you just couldn’t understand.
We realized how complex things can be. You have seen weary days and friends by your side.
Hard places we could never explain yet the song “Lean on me” has its place —on display for us to see!
Whitney Houston said “Learning to love yourself is the greatest love of all,” we look around —50 years kind of seems so small.
So tonight, we laugh and share memories of our past.
Pass around old pictures, hug the necks of homework buddies, football mates, afterschool detentions friends, telling your best friend if you don’t hurry you’ll  being late for your class…
Tomorrow is not promised so this I dare ask…cherish moments…make them last.
We are what we need. To love, encouragement, strength, endurance, and joy… we toast to the hope that gives us peace.
